Education (Book, briefings, articles)
How to make board-level decisions about buildings is an overlooked management science. These decisions are extremely complex technically and strategically.
Executive and directors need to have a common framework for thinking about these decisions.
Book
Buildings Matter was written for executives and directors, is a non-technical, well-organized and practical discussion of project decision-making.
It includes detailed chapters on developing the feasibility analysis and business case, location and site analysis, space use planning and architecture,
and financial analysis. It also includes a summary of the design and construction process, including ideas about how to evaluate and hire the right team.
As a facility management practitioner, I have used Mr. Van Mell's ideas to further the goals of my corporation. I will continue to champion Buildings Matter as a critical executive reference for decision-makers around the world.
